Synopsis

On December 13th 2014 a multicultural blanket of people united worldwide demanding justice for Eric Garner, a man killed by a Staten Island police officer. His death succeeded a series of cases involving unarmed black men killed by law enforcement figures. The trend sparked public outcry and frustration. Protesters rapidly amassed supporters who advocated #BlackLivesMatter in hopes of ceasing racial injustices and inequalities displayed by the United States Judicial System on all levels.

P.S. I Can’t Breathe provides a raw, uncensored glimpse into the Millions March NYC immediately AFTER a grand jury deliberated to not indict the officer responsible for Eric Garners death. Tens of thousands of protesters and social justice groups rallied together in NYC to urge lawmakers to taking action against police brutality and human rights crimes, and denounce the United States Justice Systems for its inability to hold law enforcement accountable for reprehensible actions.

Real interviews with the protesters capture the depths of hurt and anger in the community, along with their hope for justice and suggestions for solutions to inspire the change many wish to see. The film goes on to discuss topics regarding police training, race, media’s influence on the perception of black culture, a history of fear towards Black Men and its influence on aggressive policing.

This award winning documentary encourages the observer to digest information regarding the #BlackLivesMatter hash-tag and understand the youth’s perspective on the topic while taking a deeper look into aftermath or Post Script of hope lost and shattered dreams when justice is not equal for everyone.
